Emergency Preparedness Tips For Natural Disasters
To fail to plan, is to plan to fail. This statement is signigicantly relevant when referring to natural disasters. Rainbow Restoration would like to provide you with awareness tips to assist with your preparation for tornadoes, hurricanes, floods, and other natural storms.
EMERGENCY KIT
It is always a good idea to designate a waterproof container with natural disaster emergency items ready for a moment’s notice. Storing your emergency kit near a door for quick retrieval is also helpful. Items to include in your kit should be -
- Flashlights
- Extra Batteries
- First Aid Kit
- Non Perishable Food Items (granola bars, canned food, peanut butter)
- A Gallon of Water per person/per day
- Manual Can Opener
- Battery Powered Radio
- Medications
- Pet Supplies
- Wet Wipes/Toilet Paper
- Disinfectant
- Extra Clothing/Blankets
EVACUATION PLAN
Another wise goal for preparation is to develop and practice a family evacuation route from your home and neighborhood. The first step is to designate a meeting place. Choose a family or friend’s residence, a local church, or other arranged location. Secondly, determine a departure route from your home and neighborhood through various exits. In the event of a natural disaster, one or more exits may be blocked. Designate an adult or older teen to learn how to shut off utilities as they leave. Thirdly, set up local alerts for each family member’s cell phone. Fourthly, arrange for family communication by designating what platform that will be through.
Having an emergency kit and an evacuation plan prepared ahead of time is extremely beneficial. Natural disasters don’t come with a schedule, so we are available when you need us.
